Tamarisk House, Bournemouth

Tamarisk House, provides a new Job Centre on the ground floor and back of house offices which support the Job Centre throughout the South West region. This scheme is part of a roll-out of projects for the Job Centre.

Ridge was engaged as Employer’s Agent on the scheme by Land Securities Trillium to deliver the building for various DWP departments to consolidate their activities.

The site, which formed part of the old Abbey Life site in Bournemouth, was first cleared and environmental clean up works carried out as part of the planning requirements. These included asbestos and old petroleum tanks. The development required party wall negotiations, reviews of boundaries and crane licences due to its confined location, and also included a new sub-station.

The new 3-storey construction was completed, including the demolition of existing warehousing, within 12 months.

The 2250m² building has a steel frame structure and incorporates a sedum roof and brise soleil.

Requirements to attain the appropriate standards for carbon reduction, energy efficiency, sustainable consumption and production of waste, controls on water consumption and leak detection all formed an integral part of the project.

As part of the BREEAM credits an arboricultural study was undertaken, and provision was made for bats and ladybirds.

The building achieved a Very Good BREEAM rating.
