Edward Woods Estate,
London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
The Client proposed an improvement scheme to the three 1960’s tower blocks on Edward Woods Estate, to improve the living environment for residents in the blocks and in the surrounding area.
The central theme for the project involved over-cladding the blocks in order to transform their exterior appearance and provide insulation gains.
The solution to the over cladding is to remove the outside skin of the failing masonry and to introduce a Rock Shield TC system on 80mm insulation fixed to a metal framework of support brackets. The brackets also serve a base for 1,600m² of photovoltaic cells on the southern elevations.
Improvements to insulation of communal areas will be achieved by replacing the curtain walling to all the accesses and staircases to each floor.
The new 23-storey penthouse apartments will have roof-mounted solar panels to supply their hot water requirements.
As part of the project strategy, the 2 and 3-bed penthouses, which have been built to luxury spec with decked terraces set behind glass, are to be sold to partially fund the scheme. |
