Frenchay Hospital Projects,
North Bristol NHS Trust
Ridge has been involved in many projects for the Bristol NHS Trust, ranging from car park extensions through temporary offices to theatres and refurbishment and extensions of major hospitals. Projects at Frenchay Hospital include:
- CT Scanner Facility: The Trust required a new CT scanner facility and the only available site created a number of restrictions in terms of access and phasing in what was an already tight programme. Ridge, working with the Contractor, agreed a solution incorporating elements of pre-fabrication to enable swift erection on site, whilst reducing cost as well as the impact on the ongoing hospital activities. The project was completed within the required budget and the design solution will allow the relocation of the Unit at a later date to assist in any redevelopment of the site.
- Clark Hall, Doctors Accommodation: Ridge was appointed to provide all services in connection with the upgrading of some existing residential accommodation for junior doctors in order to meet current legislation. The age of the building meant that management issues arose regarding the removal and encapsulation of asbestos containing materials within a 24 hour occupied property. Again, the need for completion within a short time scale added to the challenges of the project.
- Intensive Care Unit: Phased refurbishment of existing ward areas together with a new build extension comprising 4 separate bed spaces, divided by full height acoustic glazed partitions. A 22-week programme, negotiated contract under IFC. Negotiation was the preferred procurement route and enabled an early start on site with a view to completing the contract prior to the 2008/09 financial year close.
- The Day Theatre and Endoscopy Suites:
The conversion of an existing theatre to Endoscopy Suites and the conversion of a pair of Endoscopy Suites at the heart of the hospital to be upgraded for theatre use. The M&E services and cost control of this particular aspect of the work was challenging given the fact the existing services were intensively used, but needed to be maintained and upgraded, as they serviced other parts of the hospital.
- Pathology Department: At Frenchay Hospital the existing Pathology Dept will receive a complete refurbishment whilst occupied and operational.
- Mortuary Viewing Rooms: New Viewing Rooms to the Mortuary. The Mortuaries are in subsidiary buildings at both Frenchay and Southmead and the schemea will provide landscaping to the adjacent spaces forming gardens.
- Wheelchair Services: Refurbishment of two existing buildings and small extension, providing workshops, storage and consulting rooms.
