The Albert Memorial, London

Ridge has been involved in critical works on one of London’s most awe-inspiring landmarks – the Albert Memorial, which is regarded as one of greatest pieces of Victorian gothic extravaganza anywhere in the world.

The award-winning lighting system employs the re-use of bespoke perimeter lighting pods in addition to light fittings mounted to the roof of the Albert Hall.

Ridge was employed to undertake a review of the existing lighting system and to design a replacement wiring system which would allow safe and easy maintenance.

For the review of the existing system, Ridge undertook the role of Main Contractor and employed Southern Electric Contracting to undertake a Periodic Test and Inspection of the existing Low Voltage Infrastructure. A specialist lighting-control company was employed to undertake a report on the existing control system.

Ridge completed a detailed options study and produced budget estimates to enable the Client to make an informed decision.

In addition to the investigation works, Ridge has undertaken a specification and design for new Undercroft lighting and 110V ring mains system.

The new wiring layout relocates the existing lighting control external to the memorial, to allow ease of access for commissioning and on-going maintenance.

Ridge supplied Building Surveying support for the specification of soft dig and road crossings for the proposed wiring layout.
