Heythrop Park, Oxfordshire
The original house was built circa 1705; it is the second largest house in Oxfordshire and holds Grade II Listing. In 1960’s the house was extended and remodelled to serve as a training and conference centre for a high street bank until 2000 when Firoka bought the estate and converted it into a hotel and conferencing facility.
Having worked for the Client for 8 years, successfully completing a 15,000-seat football stadium, a 200,000ft² leisure development, a 160-bed hotel and a feasibility study for the restoration of Alexandra Palace, Ridge was asked to work on the redevelopment of Heythrop Park.
- Phase 1, 2001: The main house was converted from the conference centre into a 14-bed luxury hotel facility, whilst the 270 standard bedrooms in the additional accommodation wings were refurbished and incorporated into the hotel.
- Phase 2, 2007: Ridge, conducted a feasibility study into the conversion of the development, as a whole, into a Hotel & Spa Country Resort; the scheme included an 18-hole Championship Golf Course and a new Leisure Centre.
- 2009: Ridge delivered the refurbishment and alteration of the existing leisure facilities into a new Health and Fitness Club where amenities include a state-of-the-art gym, an indoor 20m pool, sauna and steam room, restaurant and bar along with spa treatment facilities.
Ridge also cost managed the brand new 7088yd, par 72 Golf Course which is a sympathetic restoration of the 440acres of neglected listed parkland. The construction was completed in 2009 in line with the Estate Masterplan Programme.
- 2010: An extensive redevelopment of 197 bedrooms, conference facilities and public areas to the Crowne Plaza Brand is due to complete in the autumn of 2010. The external approaches and courtyards are being redesigned.
- Phase 3, In excess of 100 bedrooms will be refurbished to 4* standard within the Listed main house and two extended wings. In addition the public areas are planned to be refurbished.
