The National Gallery, London

The Grade I listed buildings, completed in 1910, occupy the north side of Trafalgar Square. The relatively recent addition of the Sainsbury Wing is to the west side of the site. The Gallery houses one of the greatest collections of Western European paintings in the world.

Ridge staff have been working for the National Gallery since 1994 as part of a continuous framework agreement for building maintenance and project Works:

  • North Wing: Refurbishment and reconfiguration of eleven galleries in three phases over several years.
  • School Entrance: Refurbishment of the Education Building to the rear of the Gallery. The scheme included refurbishment of classrooms and retail outlet.
  • Sainsbury Wing Theatre: Refurbishment of lecture theatre, which included modifications for disabled access.
  • Replacement of Gallery roof: Removal of existing roof and mechanised blinds. The patent glazing is being replaced and new automated blinds installed. This is part of an ongoing refurbishment of the roofs to the National Gallery buildings.
  • Installation of new chillers: Installation of new chillers on the Education Block roof including formation of an acoustic roof enclosure.
