St Michael’s Church, EasthampsteadRidge has been involved in the Church quinquennial inspections for many years and also in an extension to the Parish Rooms. A series of roof leaks were resolved some years ago, but funds did not stretch to complete the internal repairs at the same time. Ridge was appointed to specify the internal remediation works which encompassed:
Timbers were treated to eradicate existing infestation whilst uninfected timbers in the roof structure were preserved and protected. The presence of bats restricted the chemicals that could be used. The timber floor beneath the pews was also treated and reinstated where necessary. Ceiling plasterwork was sympathetically and carefully repaired and restored using a horse hair reinforced lime plaster and distemper coloured with a natural pigment. The existing lighting was very inefficient and did not enhance the architectural features of the Church. A new energy efficient system was specified and installed both to provide suitable lighting and ground level and to enhance the architectural features of the building. To protect the Church building a fire alarm system was installed. Ridge designed the system to be both discrete, and also with an advanced ‘intelligent’ control system to cope with the burning of incense at services. The project was delivered to a very tight programme completing all works in time for Easter. |
