The BLOODHOUND projectThe ‘BLOODHOUND Project’, lead by Richard Noble with driver Andy Green, is a World Land Speed Record attempt, which will also inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The project is pushing limits with its incredible Super Sonic car - the BLOODHOUND SSC is being designed to take the world land speed record to new heights, out of reach of other challengers by going over 1,000mph. For the last 18 months, the design team has been accommodated on campus at the University of the West of England (UWE) but, as the project moves into the next phase, they found a new home in the former Maritime Heritage Centre in Bristol’s docklands, right next door to SS Great Britain. Ridge is proud to become a product sponsor providing the team with professional services in connection with the fit-out and development of their new technical centre. This project falls in line with our long association with the motorsport industry, having worked, not least for 13 Formula 1 teams. BLOODHOUND SSC will feature the largest hybrid rocket ever designed in the United Kingdom. The rocket weighs in at 400kg; it is 45cm in diameter and, at 425cm (14ft) long, the same length as a Formula One car. The rocket is designed to produce 27,500lbs of thrust. Together with BLOODHOUND SSC’s EJ200 Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine (20,000lb thrust), this will give the car a total of 47,500lb (212kN) of thrust – the equivalent of 135,000HP, or the power of 180 Formula 1 cars! |
