Red Bull Racing Wind Tunnel, Bedford

Ridge has been commissioned to refurbish and reconfigure existing aeronautical wind tunnel, used for testing aircraft such as the Concorde in a former life, for use as a Formula 1 facility for Jaguar Racing. The vast 1950’s structure, was constructed with in situ reinforced cast concrete, and the refurbishment will address the degradation of the concrete, in readiness for the installation of a multi-million pound rolling road.

The wind tunnel circuit is 240 metres in length with the largest section being 14 metres in diameter, and each fan blade weighs approximately 350Kg.

Ridge has specialist knowledge of wind tunnels across all disciplines, which is critical to the success of the project. The major refurbishment of the surrounding ’50s ancillary building and offices, is also included in the project.
