Rockingham Motor Speedway, Corby

Ridge were commissioned to master plan and design the circuit facilities and buildings at a new former quarry site in Corby, Northamptonshire, the first purpose built motor racing circuit to be built in the UK since Brooklands in 1907.

The American Speedway model provided the precedent for the design and planning of the main arrangement of the grandstands and main Rockingham building; a 270m long four storey structure with lower level concourse, two levels of hospitality and 9000 roof top seats overlooking the entire one and a half mile oval.

Two horns of 10,000 capacity uncovered aluminium seating structures at turns one and four provide unsurpassed viewing of a motor racing circuit. The simple master plan arrangement with levels of parking, trade and spectator facilities on the outfield in zoned approaches establishes clear divisions between spectators, competitors and administration.
