The Ridings Shopping Centre, WakefieldThe Client owns a number of shopping centres throughout the UK and is undertaking a program of improvements to the entrances and common areas. The shopping centre malls are on three levels and is located in the centre of Wakefield’s main shopping district. As part of this refurbishment, three of the existing entrances have been extensively re-modelled, two feature lifts have been installed in a new lift shaft located in the main open Atrium area and additional retail space has been created by part infilling some of the floor voids in the mall areas. In addition, high quality paving has been laid to link the main entrance to main shopping street. All of the refurbishment works had to be carried out in a working shopping centre with minimum disruption to the tenants and customers and this was achieved with a combination of out of hours working for noisy and messy operations and normal working hours for non-disruptive elements of work. The new paving works were upon adopted highway and Ridge negotiated directly with the Highways Department and co-ordinated the various legal agreements that were required. |
