An existing courtyard to the rear of Merton College has been infilled with an office development for college administration and archive storage. The construction features traditional detailing and the use of natural stone.

The site was particularly exacting, being surrounded by existing structures on all sides and accessed from a single storey height archway. The courtyard is also of significant archaeological interest, and the excavations have revealed the site had been inhabited since the 12th century.

The development also included the conversion of a large, listed, 17th century house, to form student accommodation.
