St Nicolas Place, Kings Norton

Commended - St Civic Trust Awards 2009, West Midlands
Launched in 1959, the Civic Trust Awards is one of the oldest built environment award schemes in Europe. From cafes and churches to housing and hospitals, the Civic Trust Awards have recognised buildings which have made a difference to local people and their communities by providing the design and facilities which have made better places for people.
This project is famous as the winner of the BBC's Restoration series in 2004 and is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and the Restoration Fund.
The project involves two Grade II listed buildings the Tudor House (Saracen's Head) and the Old Grammar School. The buildings are on either side of the 12th Century Church (Grade I) and churchyard, with which they form a major conservation and community feature. With St Nicolas Church, they make the largest complex of medieval buildings in Birmingham.
