The Cowyards, Blenheim Park

The Oxford Preservation Trust Environmental Award Winner 2008

Oxford Preservation Trust's Environmental Awards aim to recognise projects which make a significant contribution to the conservation or improvement of the built and natural environment of Oxford and its setting. The Awards act to highlight and encourage good work in and around Oxford. Nominations are visited by a Judging Panel with a wide range of expertise and knowledge of Oxford and its surrounds. Entries are considered under four categories: landscape and environmental enhancement, building conservation, new buildings and small projects. Winning projects receive a Certificate recognising the quality of the work. Those making an outstanding contribution are awarded an Oxford Preservation Trust Plaque.

This year the Cowyards received one of the six Plaques awarded. Fifteen Certificates were also awarded, with another twelve projects receiving Commendations.

The Trust commented: "Ridge & Partners have carried out this conversion of 19th century Grade II listed agricultural buildings on the Blenheim Estate for use as their own offices. Through sensitive design and use of materials, the appearance and character of the buildings and their rural setting have been preserved, while creating a successful 21st century office space."
