The World Cup seems like a distant memory, but during June and July our Liverpool office entered their very own World Cup Challenge. Craig Griffiths and Jack Walker, both Senior Chartered Quantity Surveyors from the Ridge Liverpool office were asked to join the Hill Dickinson networking event.
Check out Craig’s entry of what went on and have a read below of how it went for the Ridge Team…!
“Liverpool hosted The International Federation of Business Expo this year, and Hill Dickinson decided to host a fun networking event in the form of a table football competition, where each country represented a local businesses. Myself and Jack were nominated as the Ridge representatives, and were drawn as Chile in group B. Neither of us are sure how we got nominated, maybe the perception in the office was that we look like the two most likely to be good a pub sports!!
The format for the competition was the same as the world cup, even with an opening ceremony which included free food and entertainment via a samba footballer. It was a good opportunity to meet the competition and do a spot of networking.
The group matches were played over a 2 week period, and we managed to win all our games convincingly, although I’m not sure hammering Merseytravel was the right way to remind them we are on their framework.
After beating the favourites in the second round we made it to finals night, where the quarters, semi’s and final were held in one evening.
It was a great evening, and we managed to make it to the final, agonisingly losing to the hosts of the tournament after extra time had been played.
Finals night was very enjoyable, and I don’t think either of us would have put more effort or sweat in had it been the real world cup at stake! Even receiving a runners-up medal and chatting with Everton legend Graham Sharp couldn’t console us. It was a well organised event, and we met some interesting characters and I’m sure we will look forward to the Euro 2016 competition!”
