The Open University, Robert Hooke Building

This building is the new chemistry faculty and space science research teaching building for the Open University. It was procured under a partnering approach with contractor and design team appointed as a consortium. The building accommodation is arranged over 3 floors in two distinct blocks, which are sited to create a new landscaped courtyard and to facilitate future expansion.

The design maximises internal views through the building via staggered voids and open plan spaces. The north facing elevations of the buildings are predominantly glazed. Offices and write up areas are located to take advantage of the best views

The Space Science Department have achieved recent success with the Huygens-Cassini mission to Titan.
