Institute of Health & Social Care, Anglia Ruskin University
A new-build project, it's function being to provide the University with a state-of-the-art facility for teaching health and social care.
The teaching spaces on the lower floors replicate specific medical and social care environments such as hospital wards, operating theatre, intensive care unit, radiography room as well as facilities for physiotherapy, and counselling. The detailed design accommodates current teaching methodology, which requires extensive use of electronic filming and recording facilities, playback facilities, video conferencing as well as IT and internet facilities.
The building footprint is 15m by 48m and has a gentle curve along its length. A 5-storey structure comprises a reinforced concrete primary structure on all levels. The external envelope from first to third floor comprises a terracotta rain screen cladding system supported on a secondary steel structure. An insulated render system on blockwork forms the external envelope at ground and fourth floor levels.
