Douglas House, Oxford
A new build development, to provide a specialist unit for terminally ill adolescents.
Douglas House quickly developed from concept to detail design. Montpelier Estates have promoted the use of the JCT Management form of Contract 1998 within a Development Agreement framework. This has enhanced the development process to provide:
- Greater ability to control details and materials
- Earlier involvement and dialogue with the chosen constructor
- Promotion of an ethos of partnership and inclusiveness
- Inclusion of buildability and value engineering concepts at pre-construction stage
- Opportunities for the inclusion of low maintenance materials and components
There are seven en-suite bedrooms, and accommodation for those who may come to stay with the young people as well as attractive living rooms and facilities for recreation, entertainment and study.
Douglas House provides essential support and respite care to both short stay residential and visiting day guests drawn from Oxford and the surrounding community, and offer personally tailored programmes which include care treatment, recreation and fellowship.
The Project was awarded the title 'RICS building of the year' in 2004.
