Theatres 7 and 8, Frenchay Hospital

Theatres 7 and 8 are in the heart of the Hospital, adjacent to the Accident and Emergency entrance. The existing theatre plant was installed 25-30 years ago and did not meet current standards for infection control and therefore required replacement.

The purpose of the plant is to filter, clean and supply sufficient air to generate a positive-pressure within the sterile environment thus creating a defence against infection. By creating this pressure, which bleeds through the prep rooms and beyond, the potential germs are kept out of the controlled space.

To upgrade these systems the hospital theatres were temporarily relocated, remaining functional during the works, which also involved dealing with a significant amount of asbestos in the old facilities.
