Peterborough Hospital

The Ridge team is working for the PFI Special Purpose Vehicle on £80million worth of services installation at Peterborough Hospital. Our role includes the Cost Planning of the services installation together with preparation of a full traditional bill of quantities to facilitate the procurement of the services installing contractor.

This totally new hospital is replacing the existing Edith Cavell Hospital, so consideration was therefore needed for phasing of the Works to enable transfer of patients within the period of the Contract.

The new hospital totals 110,000m² and has 6-storey ward blocks. It comprises three facilities, an Acute Hospital, a Mental Health Unit and an Integrated Care Centre, replacing several outdated buildings around Peterborough.

Ridge developed the initial M&E budget based upon the Trust’s SOA’s and Departmental Room Data requirements. As the M&E design was developed Ridge continued to monitor the M&E cost plan and provided costed feedback on the emerging scheme and provided advice and costs relating to alternative solutions. Many alterations of the cost plan were developed over the period leading up to FITN.

For procurement, Ridge sub-divided the project into multiple packages – MHU, ICC, mechanical, primary electrical, secondary electrical, Data, other low current systems, etc. Ridge then worked with our Client to procure these M&E packages within the budget parameters thus enabling the Client to go out to medium sized or specialist contractors where possible. From there we have held a watching brief providing ongoing back up to the Client and the on-site QS team.
