Healthcare

Royal Berkshire Hospital
The Chesterman Ward is an existing out-patients ward of a 1970’s hospital. Refurbishment was required to meet the current Health Technical Memorandum (clinical standards).
As part of a framework with the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust, this refurbishment project was one of approximately 20 commissions undertaken in one year.
The Brief -
To create an informal area offering a comfortable relaxed space for both patients and waiting relatives.
Solutions -
Staff input was a key part in the design process and achieved through frequent liaison with the relevant Ward Staff.
The new Ward was constructed to a high clinical standard and the design successfully achieves a less institutional and more comfortable space.
The project was challenged by the extensive presence of asbestos and the location of the Ward within a busy hospital wing.
- Better lighting was achieved with decorative feature lighting, repositioned to suit the new layout.
- Air conditioning was installed to improve the environment.
- Light, vibrant colour schemes were selected.
- Ridge provided a full service from inception to completion. The project, delivered on time, took three months on site
