Historic and Conservation

Aston Martin Owners Club, Oxfordshire
The conservation, repair and improvements of a Grade II* listed fifteenth century tithe barn to form the headquarters of the Aston Martin Owners Club at Drayton St Leonard.
The open nature of the barn is preserved, with exposed original elm frame, and replacement green oak cut in to repair decayed sections.
The large roof area, covered in handmade clay roof tiles, remains undisturbed by roof lights. A new stone perimeter wall has been constructed, with seasoned oak cladding above.
All the wet services, kitchen, boiler room etc, are housed in an external pod linked by a short glazed passage, to avoid the risks from these services in close association with the fabric of the barn. I
nternally, an enclosed office structure has been constructed with a staircase surrounding a tall trophy cabinet, leading up to an open mezzanine archive store on a deck over the office.
This project received a 2002 RIBA South Award, and a Civic Trust Award for 2003.
