Kings Norton Old Grammar School and Saracen's Head

This project is famous as the winner of the BBC's Restoration series in 2004 and is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and the Restoration Fund.

The project involves two Grade II listed buildings the Tudor House (Saracen's Head) and the Old Grammar School. The buildings are on either side of the 12th Century Church (Grade I) and churchyard, with which they form a major conservation and community feature. With St Nicolas Church, they make the largest complex of medieval buildings in Birmingham.

The scheme developed into a mixed-use centre for heritage and community use, providing a Learning Centre, a café, and meeting/function spaces. The Old Grammar School, which is nationally significant, will be used with the Saracen's Head as a heritage educational and visitor facility for all ages. Ridge was involved in putting together the original proposal for the television presentation and after the competition was retained as consultant.
