Wokingham Town Hall

The internal refurbishment at Wokingham Town Hall has been conducted with Ridge providing design, specification, obtaining statutory approval, contract procurement and contract administration.

The Town Hall is an impressive Victorian gothic grade II* listed building. The interiors have been neglected and inappropriately modernised over many years. The Council wished to return the public rooms to a more authentic scheme of decoration. This includes the re-display of the Council's artworks with improved lighting and security. The Council expect that this will lead to greater public use of these rooms for meetings, weddings and functions, as part of the Council's services to the public.

It is a grade II* listed building in a prominent public location. It has impressive interiors in the refurbished rooms and the Artworks have been re-hung following recommendations made by Reading Museum. It has not been an attempt at full restoration with original materials as these would not generally be suitable for use in modern conditions. Modern equivalents and a colour scheme recommended by the Victorian Society have been used.
