Lydalls Road and Compton Close, Didcot
A new build scheme to provide 11 energy efficient homes on a brownfield site in Didcot. The client wanted to create cost effective affordable homes using sustainable construction methods and including practical easy to maintain energy efficient features including:
- Solar water heating to pre heat water entering hot water cylinders
- Condensing gas boilers
- Solar energy from photovoltaic cells
- Sun pipes from the roof to provide bright natural light
- Double glazing
- Low energy Light fittings
- Geo-thermal heat pumps and heat exchangers to utilise ground heat for heating and cooling systems
- Grey water recycling and low flush sanitary systems
- Recycled site rubble for hard core
- Cat 5 cabling for home networks and entertainment systems
- Water butts for garden rainwater recycling
- Loft and cavity wall insulation
- Passive stack ventilation
The successful project was the Best Brownfield/Recycled Site, winner in the National Home Improvement Council Awards 2004, and runner up in the Elimination of Fuel Poverty section.
