Work is progressing well on the large-scale internal refurbishment of Salisbury Fire Station which will provide new open plan office areas, meeting room accommodation and unisex shower rooms on the ground floor. This project will also look to reconfigure and refurbish the bedroom and welfare facilities on the ground floor of the station.
Ridge have provided property consultancy services to Wiltshire Fire & Rescue over a number of years. The overarching reason for this refurbishment was to provide the Station with the separation between operational and administrative procedures.
The works have involved the relocation of the ground-floor gym facility to the first-floor existing recreation room. Additionally, the works have incorporated a full electrical re-wire and heating system replacement, which required extensive design input from Ridge Building Services Engineers.
Ridge has provided full specifications and drawings for the refurbishment project and is managing the construction process, whilst interfacing with building control, stakeholders and various client team members.
Acoustic consultants have been appointed to undertake sounds tests in order to provide a resolution to minimising sound transfer from the first floor gym equipment to the open plan office on the ground floor. This proposed new acoustic system includes a specialist built up gym floor, as well as a new acoustic ceiling in the open plan office.
Due to the station being manned 24 hours a day, careful consideration has been taken as well as planning to ensure access, phasing and mobilisation of the construction works was given.
