Countess of Chester Hospital

Officially opened in 1984, the Countess of Chester Hospital is the main NHS hospital in the Chester area. It has 625 beds, an A&E department as well as general medical departments, with more than 425,000 patients attending the hospital for treatment each year.

Within the grounds is Ancora House – a 26-bed specialist inpatient and day patient Child and Adolescence Mental Health Services unit (CAMHS). This purpose-built facility was commissioned by Villicare, a joint venture between Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) and healthcare estate specialist Ryhurst.

The £14.5 million construction of Ancora House faced various challenges, including working around the operating hospital campus and changes to the design, which required the implementation of a robust change control process in order to support a successful delivery.
