Our Projects

Lighting Strategy for High Street Retailer

Ridge has a long-standing relationship with our Client. Our latest project for the retailer will save it £1 million a year and cut carbon emissions across its entire UK estate.

The lighting efficiency programme Ridge is delivering for our Client is an example of one of the many ways in which we have supported the retailers with our expertise. For this project we were asked to review the energy used for artificial lighting within high street stores. At the time of writing Ridge had reviewed in excess of 160 stores and the project is ongoing.

During the initial stages of the project our team of experienced engineers completed a survey of the existing installations and reported the energy use. Next, Ridge developed replacement options to improve energy efficiency, including target savings in CO2 and financial costs, and a procurement and replacement programme. The installation of the replacement lighting is now underway within occupied buildings. It is taking place outside normal working hours to ensure minimal disruption to trading.

The outcome of the project is a payback period of less than five years and an annual saving in excess of £1 million as well as a reduction in CO2 emission of 4,220,000kg per year. Ridge now has a rolling programme of works to address lighting across the client’s estate.

Our scope of service for our Client also includes minor refurbishment works, boiler efficiency programmes, fire alarms replacement and discipline-based strategic reviews of specifications.
