Lincoln College – Renovation of Turl Street and Mitre Accommodation Oxford
The Renovation of Lincoln College student accommodation within Listed buildings in Oxford city centre. The accommodation sits above retail units along both Turl Street and the High Street.
The client, Lincoln College, is a private Oxford College. The existing student accommodation in the Grade II* Listed Mitre building, and the adjacent Grade II Listed Turl Yard, was in a poor condition and refurbishment was long overdue. Renovation was necessary, not only for the students, but to meet the standard required for holiday lets and conferences which provide the College with revenue during the holiday periods.
The works to refresh the 70 bedrooms included the addition of en-suite bathrooms, improved access and wayfinding, an update of the mechanical, electrical and other associated services and the creation of a new Lodge / entrance building.
Ridge led and managed the tendering of the design team, working closely with the College to research and build a team who specialise in heritage buildings/ design, which has been huge benefit to the project.
The site presented a series of challenges for the project team and Ridge was required to lead the management of multiple stakeholders. We arranged meetings and receptions with the tenants of the ground floor units and worked closely with the College lawyers to determine the relevant legal agreements required for the works.
