P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft Facility Lossiemouth

Ridge was appointed by Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) to provide fully integrated, multidiscipline detailed design, project and cost management services for a new aircraft facility to house and maintain nine P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft at RAF Lossiemouth.

The £132 million project includes three large hangars, extensive squadron accommodation, office and training facilities together with alterations to the airfield. Ridge has established a great relationship with BDUK, working together on many infrastructure projects to support their aviation and defence business.

The P-8A Poseidon aircraft and its crews will be operating 24/7 to safeguard UK waters. This project is part of a long-term initiative between the UK Government and Boeing, which provides essential support to the P-8A Poseidon fleet in its roles of maritime surveillance, anti-submarine and anti-surface ship warfare based at RAF Lossiemouth.

For this project Ridge developed new BIM script routines to automate the checking, location and spacing of all fire rated penetrations for mechanical and electrical service works, to ensure compliance with certified fire resisting construction. This was an exhaustive exercise carried out by our BIM consultancy team which checked compliance at design stage against installation, and on site against certified manufacturer standards.

Ridge was shortlisted at the 2019 Building Awards for ‘Digital and BIM Initiative’ for ‘Digital & BIM Algorithms for Fire Stopping Validation’.
