The Academy Selsey, secondary academy in West Sussex West Sussex

A replacement secondary school for The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) at The Academy Selsey, West Sussex.

The Academy Selsey, a secondary academy in West Sussex and part of the TKAT multi-academy trust, was largely destroyed by fire in August 2016. The students were relocated to a temporary school set up in the playing fields on the existing school site.

Ridge was appointed via the multi-academy trust, through the school insurers, Zurich, to provide full multidiscipline professional services for rebuilding the school.

Of the main school buildings, one existing teaching block and the music and drama block were deemed safe to be refurbished; the rest were demolished.

Following the fire, TKAT re-evaluated their existing teaching provision within Selsey. With funding restrictions, Ridge was challenged to provide high quality school accommodation within the same footprint as the previous secondary school.

The new build comprises science laboratories, food technology, halls, art room, general teaching spaces and admin areas. The amenity spaces are located centrally, and an existing block has been refurbished, to provide general teaching rooms.
