Ridge Acquires Upton McGougan Ltd

Ridge is expanding with the acquisition of civil and structural engineering firm Upton McGougan.

Upton McGougan was formed in 1981 and grew to a team of 55 people in Winchester offering civil and structural engineering, building consultancy and services design. This acquisition further enhances the Ridge structural engineering and mechanical & electrical design teams resources, adding expertise in civil engineering, traffic and transport, drainage and flood alleviation design.

The deal follows a year of strong growth for Ridge, during which the multi-discipline consultancy has expanded from 250 to more than 360 people including:

  • The earlier acquisition of Brazier Holt Partnership, a Midlands-based specialist civil and structural engineering consultancy that was relocated from Stratford-upon-Avon to the Ridge Birmingham office in September 2013
  • 4 senior appointments at Partner level: Darren Talbot (Project Manager, Bristol office) joined Ridge from Davis Langdon where he had headed their education team; Phil Baker (Building Services, Oxford); Jerry McCole (Project Manager, Liverpool) and Kevin McKee (Infrastructure Consultant, Oxford)

Both Upton McGougan and Brazier Holt have already been working closely with Ridge on a number of important schemes. They complement the wide ranging portfolio of Ridge across all markets providing additional capability and bolstering its multi-discipline skills set.

Phil Jones, senior partner of Ridge, said: “This latest acquisition provides us with an excellent opportunity to offer our clients a wider range of services and added value. It is a good fit both geographically and in terms of further expanding our broad range of disciplines.  Most importantly, we will continue Upton McGougan’s good work for existing clients while allowing their team’s access to more opportunities within our growing business. We welcome the new additions to Ridge and look forward to the continuing development of our civil and structural engineering capabilities.”
