Ridge & Partners opens China office

Ridge & Partners LLP, the multi-discipline property and construction consultancy, has opened it’s first overseas office, in Shanghai, China. This follows the practice winning projects in China, including the Zhejiang Circuit, a luxury, multi-use motorsport destination in the city of Shaoxing on China’s east coast, featuring Clubhouses, Boutique hotel and commercial retail and brand centres surrounding a 3.3 km FIA Grade 2 racing track by Apex Circuit Design.

The new Ridge branch in Shanghai’s central district of Huangpu will focus initially on further strengthening our niche in providing world-leading design services to motorsport and automotive clients in China. Ridge has built this market position based on our unique brand as a British practice with extensive experience and technical expertise in the design and delivery of cutting-edge motor sector projects. We have worked for a long list of Formula One clients and prestigious automotive companies, such as Jaguar Land Rover, as well as automotive museums, private car collectors and research and development facilities.

The China office which is a “Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise” will employ staff members from both the local market and the UK, while being supported by a multi-discipline team at the Ridge headquarters in Oxford. The longer term aim of the China office is to support a wider range of local clients throughout Asia and to offer the comprehensive range of construction and property services that Ridge provides in the UK.

Paul White is leading the Shanghai office. He said: “Ridge brings a unique blend of British expertise, leading-edge design and technical excellence to the Chinese motorsport and automotive market. We also have a huge depth of skill in sustainability as well as a long history of delivering research and development facilities – including for University of Oxford institutions – which we believe gives us an edge in China. We’re looking forward to building on our existing niche, which we will do initially by expanding to target sports and leisure developments, which the Chinese government is encouraging. ”

Graham Blackburn, partner at Ridge, said: “Ridge has a wealth of experience in delivering projects overseas for our UK clients throughout the world. In opening our first overseas office we have added an even greater depth of capability to service local as well as British clients in Asia. This key strategic move will further strengthen the Ridge business, which achieved substantial growth last year, with fee turnover of more than £35 million for the year ended 31st December 2014 and on target to grow again to £40m in 2015.”

Ridge was appointed on Zhejiang Circuit by lead consultant Apex Circuit Design. We are providing architecture, project management, quantity surveying and building services design on the development, which is due to open in 2016.
